New Ideas for outdoor decor

For the past few weekends the weather has been fairly decent, which means it would have been smart of me to get a head start on the outdoor decorations for the holiday season.  The only problem is that we have this family unspoken rule that we don’t bring out any holiday decorations until after turkey day.  So, the wait continues, which isn’t all half bad since I’m not sure what I want to do with the outside this year anyhow.  So I’ve been browsing pinterest for inspiration…

Of course, this entry way is BEAUTIFUL, but really, who has the time.  And we all know this was most likely a catalog shot perfectly styled for some big box store.  But still, it’s beautiful…and dreamy.

But part of me just wants to be simple and green.  Something like this…

But since I don’t have a beautiful (and clean;) white front door, my entryway will probably end up something more like this, sans ribbon…

Either way, the outdoor decorations will happen, and all will be right in the world once again.  But until then, I will continue to stress about the obviously very important things in life…decorations;).  So if any of you are creative nellies and want to share your holiday decor secrets, spill away.  I could use a little “outside the box” inspiration.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

Everyone loves a good book

I’ve made it my mission this year to celebrate the season of gift giving by putting a little more thought into finding fantastic gifts unique to each person on my list.
We all have a reader in the family who just loves and appreciates the classics. Look at these beauties.

Mini lamp makeover

It’s a Monday morning makeover! Well, in the smallest way possible. But that’s alright. Any change is big change in my book.

My two girls share a room, so to be efficient with space, I painted a desk to go between their beds, instead of a typical night stand. I had been looking for two small reading lamps for quite some time, but was having trouble finding two that were the same. While working at the store this weekend I spotted these two beauty’s and decided to give them a whirl.

Now I wasn’t totally digging the scale of them, but I knew a new shade would fix that. So off I went Saturday morning searching for shades, and I found just the perfect ones.

So, that’s my mini Monday morning makeover. It may not seem like much, but it sure made my girls (and me) happy.
Happy Monday y’all!

Living in…

While looking through my daily blog feed, I came across this post on the Design Sponge site.  They often do a post featuring a movie and then break down the feel, mood, style of the featured film to help you create a room/style with the same mood.  This weeks “living in” post just seemed so in line with the the current season and what we offer over at Gather and Collect, so I thought I would share.

Living in…Cider House Rules.

Worn wood, cozy wool blankets, vintage pottery.  Yup, that pretty much describes the mood in the store now a days.  We have plenty of colorful stuff as well, but lets embrace the warmth of the season for just a moment.

For the complete post, visit the Design Sponge site and read on.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

Sweater Pillows

For all of you who follow various blogs, specifically crafty DIY blogs, the Pinterest challenge is not new news.  But for those of you who don’t know, there is currently a challenge to actually make a craft you’ve pinned onto your Pinterest board.  Are you following me???

Anyhow, this post isn’t about participating in the challenge per say, it’s more about a specific project I came across on the Centsational Girl blog and would like to try myself. Here at Gather and Collect we are all about creating and thinking outside of the box, and this little project encompasses both of these ideas.  That, and it’s too good not to share;).

Grab yourself some of these…

and create some of these…

What a great idea!!!  And aren’t they gorgeous, and perfect for these cold and rainy fall days?

For a detailed tutorial, check out the Centsational Girl blog.  Actually, you should check out her blog anyhow.  It’s pretty fun and inspiring.   Well, I sure have ants in my pants to gather supplies and start crafting.  Have a great weekend y’all.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

Thanksgiving on my mind

Can you believe it’s November?  Well, it is and I’m totally and completely in a nesting mood.  Just ask my husband;)  He keeps telling me that I need to stop redecorating our house and decorate someone elses house.  Whatever.  I just carry on my merry ways.

For all you fellow nesters and planners out there, I thought I would share a few pretty pictures to help inspire the Thanksgiving mood.  I know it seems way to early to even be mentioning turkey, but in reality it’s just a short 4 weeks away, and I’m hungry.  So, soak up some fall harvest inspiration.

I think the last image is my favorite and inspires me the most.  I just love the combination of blue and brown.  It’s very unexpected on a Thanksgiving dinner table, but the cool blue glasses are a nice compliment to the warm brown tones and it just looks so laid back and classy, all at the same time.

So start digging in and layering colors, textures and pattern to create a warm, cozy and inviting place. Happy Gathering!

An Ode to Color…Orange and Brown

A warm, cozy, comfortably designed room is my idea of chicken soup for the soul.  There’s nothing better than coming home from running around all day to a cozy, serene home.    The colors orange and brown seem to be an instant decompressor.

So, what colors make you feel all warm and cozy when the weather is cool?  I suppose a little Chicken Soup wouldn’t hurt either;)

Vintage Books

Who doesn’t love a good book every now and again.  And vintage ones are even better.  I mean, look how beautiful they are.

And look how beautiful they are incorporated into various rooms.

By the way, check out the above link for details on the amazing dresser makeover.  It’s perfection.

And speaking of books, I think tomorrow I’ll share a few photos of some amazing bookshelves.  Why are bookshelves so difficult to get just right?  I’m still trying to master that one.

Come check out our vintage books and other collectibles in the store.

Baskets

So, I didn’t get really creative with the title of the post, but baskets and storage are a rather utilitarian subject, so why not have a fitting title.  It is the nesting season (no babies necessary) and I have baskets on the brain.  I feel like I’m always searching for that perfect basket for something or another.  They’re great for corralling shoes, winter gear, firewood, toys, blankets, books, magazines, remote controls, and all of lifes other stuff.

You can never have too many baskets.

Oh, the wonders of baskets.  They’ve been in existence forever and are stilling going strong today.  We have loads in the store and you need them.  We’re open Thursday – Saturday 10-5.

How appropriate

Just last week I was posting about vintage blankets and how beautiful and zesty they can be, and then I came across this quilt roundup on apartment therapy.  Now a few of them are not vintage, but rather vintage inspired, which we at Gather and Collect love just as much.  Here’s one of the pretty pictures from the original post.

Heirloom quilts in general are much harder to come by, unless of course you have a very talented friend or family member (or you yourself are very talented) who has generously gifted you one.  I have never been as lucky, so all of you talented friends of mine out there…wink wink;)

BUT, we do come across beautiful quilts from time to time, and more commonly but just as beautiful, we have many beautiful afghans and wool blankets that can add just as much zest to a room as a quilt.  Point being, we love to find all the long lost beautiful blankets of the world and offer them to you at our store.  After all, who doesn’t love to snuggle on the couch with a beautiful blanket.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived!
